1. What is a button
Buttons are a daily clothing item that humans often keep. Buttons refer to small spherical or sheet-like objects that are inserted into button loops to fasten clothes. In my country, the origin of buttons can be traced back to 1,800 years ago. The earliest buttons were mainly stone buttons, wooden buttons, and shell buttons. Later, they developed into buttons made of cloth and knotted buttons.
The knotted button has played a great role in the development history of our clothing, transitioning from the initial functional fasteners to clothing decoration. Chinese knotted buttons are the button form of traditional Chinese clothing. They are made of various fabrics sewn into thin strips and knotted into various shapes of fancy buttons. Chinese knotted buttons have beautiful shapes and exquisite workmanship, just like a variety of handicrafts. They can be said to be a unique wonder in the garden of Chinese clothing. Chinese knotted buttons have the same use value as other buttons. They are mostly used to decorate and beautify clothing, especially in national clothing, which further reflects the beauty of the clothing.
2. When were buttons invented?
The use of buttons has a history of more than 6,000 years. As early as 4,000 years ago, the Persians, the ancestors of Iran, had already made buttons out of stones. In the 6th Dynasty of ancient Egypt, the rich used gold and silver to make buttons and decorated them around the collars of clothes. Although buttons were made, they were not very practical, they just looked good. Later, women who liked to wear skirts no longer used rings made of cloth to fasten buttons. They found that they could fasten buttons by cutting a hole in the clothes, which was much more convenient and practical.
In the Zhou Dynasty, my country began to adopt the system of upper garment and lower garment. Both men and women wore two parts of clothing, upper garment and lower garment. There were officials in the court who were responsible for making formal clothes. Civil and military officials had to wear formal clothes when they attended ceremonies. At that time, the use of clothing was relatively standardized and the clothing system was quite complete. The word "niu" appeared in the books "Zhou Li" and "Li Ji" that reflected the etiquette of the Zhou Dynasty. "Niu" is a knot that intertwines with each other, that is, a knot. According to the Western Zhou bronze intaglio buttons I collected and archaeological discoveries in my country, buttons were used in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. Among the Warring States relics unearthed in Shizhaishan, Jinning, Yunnan, there were round, oval, animal head-shaped and irregularly shaped buttons made of blue, apple green and light gray turquoise. Each button has one or two small holes. Some are engraved with patterns, with unique shapes, colorful and beautiful wax luster. Among the button collections, there are still simple buttons made of small stones, shells, animal horns, walnuts and coconut shells. This shows that people of our Chinese nation had already used buttons during the Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period.
The pattern on the haniwa made of human figures unearthed in Japan during the middle of the Kofun period shows that men's clothing consists of a top and a skirt. The top is a narrow-sleeved top with buttons on the front. This shows that the Japanese had already used buttons before the Kofun period.
In the 16th century, the Chinese introduced buttons to Europe. At that time, only men used them, and fewer women used them. Most people just used them for clothing. In order to show their wealth, some dignitaries used precious materials such as precious gold, silver, pearls, gems, diamonds, rhino horns, antelope horns, and ivory to make buttons for use. There is a record that King Louis XIV of France used 13,000 precious buttons to inlay a royal robe. Among my collections, there are precious buttons made of precious ox horns, antelope horns, ivory, gold and silver.
Matters needing attention in continuous dyeing of ribbons

1. Factors of ribbon blanks: First of all, we should pay attention to whether the yarn used in the ribbon blanks is from the same batch, because the "oil" contained in different batches of yarn is different. If it is blended, it will become a factor of the color in the dyeing process; secondly, whether the blank has been pre-treated. The dyeing effect of the refined blank is very good, because the "oil" on the yarn is removed after treatment, and the dye can be directly in contact with the fiber for dyeing without protection.
